Empathy Care Homes is dedicated to providing a safe, secure, and supportive residential care to enhance the physical, mental, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual capacity of children in our care.

Our care home is located in the McConachie neighborhood in northeast Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Through positive, nurturing-setting and culturally inspired experiences, we strive to foster healthy attachment, holistic sense of identity, and overall personal development and growth in the children we serve.

Our vision is to ensure personal empowerment and development for children and youth, enabling them to access meaningful resources and support for their social, economic, mental, emotional and physical health and well-being.

Comprehensive Care and Support

At Empathy Care Homes, we offer a range of services designed to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for children and youth. Our dedicated staff and well-equipped homes ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive and grow.

Nurturing Environment

We provide a nurturing environment, private rooms, nutritious meals, and all other basic needs for children and youth ages 0-17 in need of short-term and/or long-term placement in our homes.

Client-Centered Development

We provide residence-based care for a planned period of time to promote stability through the development of skills and education, abilities, and the provision of opportunities to integrate back into their community or return to their family.

24/7 Staff Support

Staff provide transportation for youth, enabling them to attend school and professional appointments, as well as, engage in community and family events. Staff engage with youth in daily living, and teach a variety of life skills including positive relationship building, appropriate boundaries, self-care/hygiene, and communication skills.

Culturally Informed Programing

Our programs are grounded in culture and a worldview approach, having the capacity to provide cultural integration from diverse ethnic-backgrounds.

Including, culture-oriented programming that incorporates the promotion of languages, traditional practices, customs, ceremonies, and/or philosophical approaches of the identified community of a person served.

At Empathy Care Homes, our mission is to provide a nurturing, trauma-informed environment where vulnerable children can thrive and become empowered members of the community.

Compassionate Care

Empathy Care Homes is the brainchild of three women—mothers, daughters, and sisters—who identified a need for compassionate, trauma-informed group care homes for children and youth in the care of the government.

We believe all individuals, regardless of ability or circumstance, have an equal right to participate fully in their lives, be honored for their personal thoughts and ideas and to be treated with inherent dignity and respect.

Healing & Life Skills Development

Trauma Informed approach with clients ensures an environment and the services delivered are able to create physical and emotional safety. Allowing individuals to have influence and control in decisions that impact them. With this, the individual is able to increase their personal sense of control over their lives and future.

Our Program Care Approach

Our client centered approach is structured bse Nour core concepts which are:

(i) Dignity and Respect - the values, beliefs, knowledge, cultural and spiritual backgrounds of all individuals are incorporated into the environment and into their daily care. Empathy Care Homes clients are honored for their perspectives and choices and as such, is a primary focus of our service delivery.

(ii) Information Sharing - effective services and care results from clear, transparent, and respectful communication between the client, the Empathy Care Homes team, the family, other stakeholders, and external team members.

(iii) Participation - children, youth, and their family members (if applicable) are encouraged and supported in participating in their daily living, service planning and decision making. This allows for a therapeutic relationship, based on reciprocity, regardless of any cognitive, emotional, mental and/or physical circumstances.

(iv) Collaboration - clients and their family members, stakeholders and vested professionals are included on an organization-wide basis. Empathy Care Homes includes the clients, the community, families and others in program design and development, evaluation, care planning, and feedback ongoingly.

How much capacity do you have?

The Group Living Program houses up to three children/youth, with the ability to expand to accommodate sibling groups, and provides a secure and safe living environment that addresses referral issues and on-going needs of the persons served.

Maintained at a 1:3 (staff to client) ratio 24 hours per day / 1:3 overnight (awake staff) *
